Anonymous asked: why did you go greek?
Hello anon. Since I don’t know who you are, I’m not sure if you know me..but know that I was not the typical person to go Greek. I was actually kind of against Greek life…but basically a couple of weeks ago a friend of mine who happened to be in Chi Omega Fraternity asked if I would like to maybe be a part and that she would put in a word with a recruiter for me if I wanted. I told her to go ahead, figuring nothing would come of it, since I wasn’t really Greek material. Low and behold, I got a call two days later asking for me to come out and meet some of the girls and try and rush. Evaluating my life in college thus far [not having many friends and still not really feeling like I had found my niche], I figured why not? And went out and met some girls. It turns out that these were some of the nicest and most genuine girls I have met since moving to Florida. They didn’t appear to be judging me, they were interested in what I had to say, and I really had a great time. That night I decided rushing would be a good thing for me because I have really really wanted that sense of belonging somewhere, and I knew that going Greek could help me make more friends. It turns out that I did get a bid, and I joined the Chi Omega Fraternity Exactly a week from last night.
On that note, I know several of my friends think that I have sold out and I am now “buying my friends”…this is not true. I am now part of a wonderful organization with amazing people and I can’t wait for my future with them. I have probably only met a small fraction of my new sisters, but I honestly love them all. Sorry for the novel…but I know a lot of people really don’t understand why I made this choice. At this point I couldn’t be happier, and I hope this makes some people less harsh to judge Greek life. If not, thanks for reading I guess. :)
